The Ninth Worldwide Consortium of Korean Studies Centers Workshop
The Ninth Worldwide Consortium of Korean Studies Centers Workshop themed on “Korean Traditional Culture and Globalization” is to be organized by Peking University Center for Korean Studies. Currently they are calling for papers on Korean Studies, a subject that has been all along attaching great importance to research into its own tradition, however, amid the growing globalization, cultural integration, cultural communication and ultra-nationalism among other subjects have been receiving increasing attention. In response to the new trend in academic research, this workshop will elaborate on the connotations and evolution of Korean traditional culture as well as the communication and interaction between Korean and other cultures. The topics for the workshop include A New Approach to Korean Culture, Inheritance and Protection of Korean Traditional Culture, Korean Culture in East Asia, Foreign Elements in Korean Culture, Korean Elements in Foreign Culture, and Diverse Cultural Communication in Korean History.
Schedule: July 4 (Thursday) through 6 (Saturday), 2013 (Arrival on July 3)

Applicants are required to be graduate students major in Korean Studies or related subjects of humanities (PhD preferred).Free accommodation for five days and four nights during the workshop and round-trip travel expenses are offered by the organizer.

Agenda:
1) Application and paper abstract shall be submitted by March 20, 2013.
2) The name roll of accepted applicants will be made public by April 10, 2013.
3) The paper shall be submitted by June 15, 2013.
4) The workshop is to be opened on July 4, 2013.
This workshop will adopt the same way in selecting attendees as the previous year. Each of the 12 member universities of the Worldwide Consortium of Korean Studies Centers is expected to recommend one excellent graduate student; another 12 attendees will be selected from among the applicants.
