Saleh Meky, the Minister of Health of Eritrea, is visiting UCLA at the invitation of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The Department recently initiated an elective rotation to expose its resident trainees to health care delivery in emerging countries.  This lecture is the second lecture; the first lecture, on Wednesday, January 19, deals with  “Challenges in African Development” from 12 - 1:30 PM in room 10383, Bunche Hall (10th floor).

Saleh Meky was the Minister of Fisheries before becoming the Minister of Health. He is a very influential member of the Eritrean cabinet and has represented Eritrea in many non-health related matters, especially with relation to foreign affairs. Mr. Meky is currently the Chairman of the Council of Health Ministers for the WHO African region. He was trained in the United States and has efficiently worked toward equitably distributing Eritrea's limited healthcare resources to both the rural and urban areas.

Both lectures are free and open to the public. Parking is available at UCLA for $7.  For info on transportation options to UCLA, campus maps, and parking, please visit http://www.ucla.edu/map/

The best approach to room 63-105 CHS is to come directly to the School of Public Health on Charles E. Young Dr. [it has a fountain in the front]; enter the building through the main entrance, go to the first block of elevators. Take elevator to the 6th floor, turn right upon exiting the elevator, then turn left down the first corridor. The lecture room 63-105 is at the end of the corridor on the LEFT. It's not as complicated as it sounds and there will probably be signs posted as well.

Cost : Free and open to the public; parking is available at UCLA for $7.
