The seven women of Sweet Honey in the Rock celebrate the sacred music of the African American church-spirituals, hymns, gospel – as well as jazz, rap, reggae, doowop and blues. Founded in 1973, this internationally renowned a cappella ensemble still endures, vividly demonstrating what a beautiful instrument the voice can be. Their powerful voices combine in a blend of lyrics, movement and narrative that challenges injustice, encourages activism and honors love.
"A Sweet Honey in the Rock concert is a transforming experience, drenching audiences with harmonies. The rhythms change, leads change, and women dance: breathtaking music" [All Music Guide].
