Luncheon Keynote Speaker:

Alfre Woodard

Actress -- Civil Rights Activist  -- Humanitarian

As an acclaimed Academy Award-nominated and Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress, Alfre Woodard is recognized for her roles in Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, The Practice, and Desperate Housewives as well as television movies such as Miss Evers' Boys and The Piano Lesson.  She has created a rich gallery of characterizations which, whether poverty-stricken or upper class, educated or not, never lost a certain instinctual savvy and realistic viewpoint.

Beyond her distinction as a celebrated actress, Alfre Woodard is committed to political activism in the United States and Africa, co-founding Artists for a New South Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to democracy and equality in South Africa and civil rights in the United States.  She also actively participates in campaigns against environmental racism and promotes efforts to raise AIDS awareness.
