The 4th Annual Pan-African Dance and Drum Conference



The Debbie Allen Dance Academy presents a dance and drum conference directed by Nzingha Camara, October 1 - 5, 2008, featuring dance/drumming workshops, Pan African Marketplace, panel discussions, film clips, celebrity guest artists, and a culmination performance. "The Spirit of the Mask" performance will be on Sunday, October 5 from 6 - 8 PM at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.

This event will be a symphony of traditional and contemporary African dance celebrating the artistry of humanity's Motherland, the African continent.  Master instructors and concert performers include pillars of the African dance community: KanKouran founder & Artistic Director- Assane Konte, Nzingha Camara, Viver Brasil w/ Badaro, Francis Awe, Omowale, N'Dege Gueye, Marietuo Camara, and many more!
 
Participants will dance, stomp and leap to the rhythms of the drums while exploring the meaning of the Mask throughout the African Diaspora.  This five-day cultural interdisciplinary event features dozens of Master Dance & Drum Workshops, a Pan-African Marketplace, Panel Discussions and Film Clips.
 
Culminating the conference will be an unforgettable, electrifying Concert Performance that will use dance, drums and storytelling to enlighten all attendees about the symbolism, power and spirit of the mask. This concert will feature performances by all of the Master Teachers, conference participants and the renowned dance companies S.H.I.N.E. Muwasi and Viver Brazil, Francis Awe and the Talking Drum Ensemble & Malik Sow and Drummers.
 
The performance will be held Sunday, October 5th, 6:00pm, at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, 3623 Hayden Avenue, Culver City, CA.  Seating is limited.
