Darfur Summer Freedom Vigils

On July 21, 2005, Darfur Freedom Summer Vigils will be held in different cities across the world, symbolizing solidarity and the worldwide demand for an end to the atrocities in Darfur.

On July 22, 2004, both houses of Congress unanimously declared the situation in Darfur, Sudan genocide. One year after this unprecedented declaration, people in Darfur are still dying as the world watches. On July 21, 2005, Darfur Freedom Summer Vigils will be held in different cities across the world, symbolizing solidarity and the worldwide demand for an end to these atrocities. The Opportunity These vigils will offer an opportunity to learn more about the situation in Darfur and to act to end the atrocities. Information will be distributed and action events will be held in conjunction with the vigils. We invite you to join the Genocide Intervention Fund and other organizations in taking a stand against the genocide in Darfur and remembering the lives that have been lost. Please feel free to be creative and integrate the ideas of others in your community, and be sure to share them with us! There are already vigils of all sizes being organized across the nation and in various locations around the world, including California; Washington, D.C.; Kenya; Mexico and France. If there isn't yet a vigil in your area, please use our organizing kit and put one together! As sunset rolls from East to West, we are hoping to create a candlelight wave, with caring people lighting candles in each city along the way. There will also be immediate action campaigns on site and information/action kits available for people to take to their own community, becoming powerful advocates for Darfur. Please mark your calendars and do all you can to get the word out about these important events. To get further information or to see where around the world these vigils will be held please visit: http://www.genocideinterventionfund.org/vigils/ To Register Let us know you're planning to host a vigil by e-mailing us or calling 610.957.6339.
