The UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History presents a talk by Rosa Lowinger about vibrant Cuban nightlife in pre-Castro Cuba.
Havana’s Tropicana club was the epicenter of Cuban nightlife in the 1940s and 1950s—the destination of choice for international celebrities, performers, and jetsetters. Rosa Lowinger, journalist and coauthor of the recent book Tropicana Nights, recounts the evolution of the celebrated venue and explores the various dance and music forms that developed out of the club, against the backdrop of a pre-Castro Cuba. A book signing follows the lecture.Date: Thursday, May 11, 2006
