Amnesty International at UCLA hosts "A Dose of Reality," an event focusing on pharmaceutical companies and the global access to medication.
Here are some facts:
- 1/3 of the world's population lacks access to essential medicines
- 77% of AIDS patients in sub-Saharan Africa do not receive adequate treatment; in East, South, and Southeast Asia 84% lack adequate treatment
- less than 1% of drugs from pharmaceutical company research goes towards third world diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria
Why don't all people have access to life-saving medications? Where do we find solutions? Who is responsible?
Please join us for a teach-in and discussion where we can ask these questions and find some answers.
