Alfred K. Neumann Professor Emeritus UCLA School of Public Health
HIV/AIDS Winter Lecture Series Presents:
Dr. Alfred Neumann, M.A., M.D., M.P.H., FACPM, began his medical career as a country doctor in rural Wisconsin and spent five years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health. He spent 28 years as a professor of public health at UCLA, teaching, undertaking research, and consulting in preventive medicine and project planning, management, and evaluation in international settings. From 1969-1980 he was the UCLA PI for a UCLA-University of Ghana collaboration known as the Danfa Comprehensive Rural Health and Family Planning Project. He has been very active in Kenya, including work in HIV/AIDS and also very active in South Africa in the years 1994-2000, where his work helped facilitate the establishment of a school of public health. He was a visiting professor at the High Institute of Public Health in Alexandria, Egypt. At retirement, Dr. Neumann was named Professor Emeritus and Senior Advisor in Preventive Medicine at UCLA. He continues his international public health service at UCLA. He continues to consult in various countries. He holds a masters degree in health economics from the University of Wisconsin, a medical degree from New York University, and a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University. He is board certified in preventive medicine.
