Childhood Diaries and the Making of Muslim Boys into Christian Men

Ph.D. candidate Shobana Shankar presents a chapter from her dissertation on The Spirit of Inquiry: Youth and Christian Medical Missions in Islamic Northern Nigeria during British Rule, c. 1900-1960.

Shobana Shankar, Ph.D. candidate in the History department at UCLA will present a chapter from her dissertation.  Her dissertation is based on archival research and oral interviews conducted in Nigeria, England, and the United States. 

Shankar's research and writing have been supported by fellowships from Fulbright/IIE, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, and the Department of History and Graduate Division at UCLA.
