UCLA Live presents a concert featuring the SF JAZZ Collective, an ensemble of today's finest jazz performers and composers.
SFJAZZ Collective Members:
“A serious jazz band rises in San Francisco.” –The New York Times
Launched in 2004, the SFJAZZ Collective has quickly become one of the most exciting and acclaimed groups on the American and international jazz scenes, lauded by the Los Angeles Times for its “sheer, out-of-the-box musicality.” Downbeat magazine’s 2006 “Rising Star Jazz Group of the Year,” this all-star jazz ensemble comprises today’s finest jazz performers and composers—including Downbeat “Artist of the Year” honorees, Grammy-nominated trumpeter Dave Douglas (2006) and saxophone giant Joe Lovano (2001).
The Collective’s innovative approach to repertoire honors jazz’s recent past and present with an eye toward the future. Honoring jazz saxophone legend Wayne Shorter, the program features new arrangements of Shorter works by SFJAZZ Collective musicians as well as original compositions by the band members.
