The 6th Annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles runs April 22-27, 2008 at the ArcLight Hollywood Cinemas. The African Studies Center will co-present the US premiere of a film from South Africa entitled The Glow of White Women.
In this funny and personal film, Yunus Vally recounts the difficulty of growing up in a world where white women defined notions of beauty and existed as objects of desire in mass media, but were forbidden by law and society.
Sex and politics mix in this funny and personal account of growing up Muslim in Apartheid South Africa.
