UCLA Live presents Tinariwen.

Tinariwen emerged from the Sahara to transfix global audiences. Formed in the crucible of the long freedom fight of the nomadic Touareg people, Tinariwen wields a sound as ancient as their way of life, and as modern as pulsating grooves on an electric guitar. The music has brought the Touareg fight for autonomy to global attention. But the band is also leading a revolution in world music. England’s Q magazine wrote that their 2007 album “Aman Iman” sounded “thrillingly unlike anything else on the planet.” The 2004 album “Amassakoul” had the UK’s Observer Music Monthly wondering if Tinariwen could be called “the best rock band in the world.”
