In her presentation, "Islam and Everyday Life: Navigating Health and Healing in Northern Senegal," Dr. Foley will explore the ways that Islam has shaped preventative and curative health strategies and the meaning of illness in Senegal.
Dr. Ellen Foley is a medical anthropologist who teaches in the Health and Societies program at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research addresses the impact of health sector reform on rural and urban women's health in Senegal. She recently began a project on African immigrant women and HIV/AIDS in Philadelphia.
The event is free. Parking is available for $7 in Lot 3.
