**EMERGENCY ALERT**

UC SUDAN DIVESTMENT TASKFORCE

The Campaign for UC Divestment from Sudan Urgently Needs your Help

This Monday, November 14th the UC Regents will be voting on a key resolution (attached) that controls the future of UC divestment from Sudan.  For the last two years, the Sudanese government has perpetrated a genocide in Darfur, leaving 400,000 dead and 2.5 million displaced.  Divesting will remove the University's money from companies that directly or indirectly help the Sudanese government commit genocide.

If the resolution passes: The Regents will be presented with, and potentially vote on a full proposal for divestment by UC President Dynes.  If the resolution fails: Divestment will be defeated.

STUDENT ACTION NEEDED
FACULTY, STAFF, ALUMNI AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT APPRECIATED!!

It is critical to show the Regents that the UC community supports divestment.  Other universities, such as Stanford and Harvard, have already divested.  The UC must follow their precedent.

The Regents will notice your support.  Come join your fellow faculty, staff, and students:

Key Information about divestment:
Divestment and Petition Website: http://www.ucdivestsudan.com

- The University of California has over $4 billion dollars of its retirement funds, endowment, and other funds invested across the world. Some of this money is invested in companies that do business in Sudan, where genocide is currently being waged by the government.

- The University of California (UC) Sudan Divestment Taskforce petitions the UC Regents to divest from, and not to invest additional funds in, any company that does business in Sudan or with the Government of Sudan. The petition is in response to the genocide that the government continues to perpetrate against the people of Darfur, Sudan.

-  Divestment will not adversely affect the Sudanese people. The divestment criteria developed by the UC Sudan Divestment Taskforce include detailed exemptions for sectors of the economy on which the average Sudanese relies for work and sustenance These include areas of agriculture, medicine, and humanitarian aide among others.
