SESSION I: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 7 PM
African Art with Polly Nooter Roberts
Polly Nooter Roberts, deputy director and chief curator of the Fowler and a specialist on the arts of Africa, leads the first session of a three-part course celebrating Intersections, the Fowler’s new, permanent collection galleries featuring outstanding examples of artistic expressions from around the globe. This gallery visit will highlight the art of Africa on display, including a pair of beautifully carved Yoruba palace doors, elegantly sculpted Luba regalia, dramatic leadership arts of Cameroon, and captivating funerary arts from Gabon. The tour will conclude with a study session of Central African power figures, emphasizing the aesthetics of accumulation.
SESSION III: WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 7 PM
Art of Asia and the Pacific with Roy Hamilton
Explore art from Asia and the Pacific, including figurative sculpture by the Austronesian peoples (today’s Indonesians, Filipinos, Polynesians, and others) and spectacular, ikat-dyed silks from Uzbekistan. Roy Hamilton, curator of Asian and Pacific collections at the Fowler, leads this final session of the Curator Series featuring an object study session of the Fowler’s extensive collection betel nut cutters.
SESSION II: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 7 PM
Mesoamerican and Andean Ceramics with Virginia Fields
Virginia Fields, curator of Pre-Columbian art at LACMA, and consulting curator for the Intersections exhibition, discusses Mesoamerican and Andean ceramics, followed by a study session on a selection of Chupícuaro ceramics from the Fowler’s collections.

Parking costs $8 in lot 4. Enter UCLA lot 4 from Sunset Blvd. at Westwood. Convenient Fowler parking is at the northeast or southeast ends of lot 4, where automated pay stations accept $1 and $5 bills and credit cards. Campus parking is maximum $8.
