Ambassador Princeton N. Lyman is the Ralph Bunche senior fellow and director of Africa policy studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University. His career in government included assignments as deputy assistant secretary of state for Africa (1981-86), U.S. ambassador to Nigeria (1986-89), director of refugee programs (1989-92), ambassador to South Africa (1992-95), and assistant secretary of state for international organization affairs (1996-98). He served as director of the U.S. Agency for International Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1976 to 1978.
