According to The Samburu Project, children die each day due to lack of clean, safe drinking water worldwide. This fact is a reality in Samburu, Kenya. The lack of clean drinking water affects every aspect of people's daily lives including health, education, finances and family dynamics. Samburu women walk up to 12 miles every day looking for water and often return without it.
Founder Kristen Kosinski conceived The Samburu Project in 2005 while traveling through Kenya learning first-hand about this daily struggle. It takes approximately three days and about $13,000 to drill and install a well that will benefit over 1,000 people. The primary focus of the Project is to see that wells are drilled to provide the foundation of clean, safe drinking water. In the last two years, The Samburu Project has completed twenty-two wells bringing water to thousands of people.
The members of the Project pride themselves on being a community based, grassroots project, working directly with the people of Samburu, giving the local residents the opportunity to make the best decisions for their community.
