ARCHIVE PREVIEWS
"Archive Previews" presents advanced screenings of new releases.  On September 13, 2010, the Archive is proud to present the West Coast premiere of acclaimed Ethiopian-born filmmaker Haile Gerima's Teza (2008).

In addition to celebrating this important new film by an alumnus of UCLA's film school, this screening honors late UCLA professor Teshome Gabriel who died in June 2010.  Proceeds from this screening will benefit the memorial fund established in Professor Gabriel's name, to support a graduate student or students in the Cinema and Media Studies Program in UCLA's School of Theater, Film & Television.

Teza (2008) tells the story a young, idealistic Ethiopian doctor who returns to his homeland after studying in Germany to find his country roiled by political turmoil and the solace and cultural inheritance of memory no longer assured.  With the command of a true master, Haile Gerima crafts a thoughtful and beautiful reflection on the displacement of African intellectuals, both at home and abroad.
