10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Covel Commons, UCLA
CA

This December, the Anderson Forecast devotes two days to examining "California and the Global Marketplace." The second day of the two day conference includes panels on   Greater China, Japan, South Asia, and South Korea among other topics. An overall aim of the conference is to generate a report card on the ongoing process of globalization.

The Wilbur Woo Panels on the Greater China Economy is part of the second day of the conference. These panels, like last year's, are underwritten by a generous gift from Wilbur Woo and has been organized by Prof. James Tong. The 2001 sessions attracted nearly 300 attendees, was widely covered in the press, and featured a keynote address by Laura Cha, deputy chair of China's securities regulatory agency. Many of the presentations from the first year are available at <http://www.isop.ucla.edu/eas/eass/china/conference.htm>.

This year Mickey Kantor will discuss China's rapid economic growth and US trade policy. As US Trade Representative from 1992 to 1996 and as US Commerce Secretary from 1996 to 2001, Kantor played a decisive role in US-China trade relations and in negotiating China's entry into the World Trade Organization.
