Study Plan

i.        Students admitted to this program should finish 90% of the required courses for the BS degree at  PKU,  and  will  enroll  at  UCLA  in  their  4th   year,  where,  with  the  guidance  of  the  UCLA Department, they will select courses needed to complete their BS program at PKU, complete a Bachelor’s Thesis, per PKU specifications (including passing the BS defense exam in person or via tele-‐conference chaired by a PKU faculty member), and will take a minimum of 12 units in courses that fulfill requirements of the MS degree at UCLA. Note that the UCLA courses can be counted toward the PKU BS degree or the UCLA MS degree, but not both.

ii.        Upon completion of the first year’s study at UCLA and the Bachelor’s Thesis, the student will receive a Bachelor’s Degree from PKU. A student who fails to earn his/her BS degree in this timeframe will not be permitted to continue studies at UCLA.

Conditional Admission into the MS Program, year 5:

The Graduate Division’s offer of Conditional Admission to the UCLA MS program will stipulate that in order for students to continue their 2nd year of study and enroll in the MS degree program at UCLA, they must:

i.        Complete at least 12 units of course work toward their MS degree at UCLA with a GPA 3.0 or higher.

ii.       Successfully complete their independent  research (CS 199 or equivalent) with a UCLA faculty member  and produce  a research  report,  which  may be used  as the basis  of their  Bachelor thesis at PKU.

iii.    Obtain their Bachelor’s Degree at PKU.

iv.    Present TOEFL or English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores that meet the minimum criteria for UCLA’s Graduate Division for admittance (if not submitted as part of original application to come to UCLA):

       v.     Receive a favorable evaluation and recommendation from the student’s research mentor.

vi.    Students meeting these requirements will receive a letter offering admission to the MS degree program from the host department and the UCLA Graduate Division.

vii.   Students who fail to meet the above requirements will terminate their study at UCLA unless a petition is made to and approved by their department at UCLA and the Graduate Division.

viii.  Students who successfully  complete  the 2nd  year of study at UCLA and fulfill the MS degree requirements in their field of study will be awarded the Master’s Degree (MS) by UCLA.

Fees:  The  student  in  the  program  will  be  responsible  for  Tuition,  Non‐Resident  Supplemental Tuition, and campus fees while studying at UCLA and the 4th year tuition and fees at PKU. Students are responsible for all living and travel expenses, and obtaining health insurance.  First year estimated total budget for non-resident, here.

We appreciate your interest and look forward to being in touch.
