Abstract
South Korea and Chile have maintained an economic growth along the last half century, coming to reach high and medium-high income levels respectively. This work compares the economic performance of South Korea and Chile during the period 1960-2006, and identifies which are the main factors that explain the economic growth of both countries, represented by the annual growth of the GDP and GDP per capita. Finally concludes that the quality and efficiency of the institutions, the strategy of exporting orientation and the opening toward the overseas market are the determinants that better explain the economic growth of both countries.
