Paul I. and Hisako Terasaki Community Outreach Program Fund

This fund is designed to promote deeper understanding among members of the Japanese American community of their rich and diverse heritage.

Non-profit organizations and qualified individuals are invited to apply for funding to co-sponsor exhibits and public seminars on subjects of broad interest dealing with Japan that will engage the Japanese American community to learn more about their heritage.

2014-15
Japanese American National Museum: 2014 Natsu Matsuri Family Festival; G.W. Kimura
Festival will include crafts, cultural performances, lectures, and activities. 

MAK Center for Art and Architecture: Groundswell: Guerilla Architecture in Response to the Great East Japan Earthquake; Kimberli Meyer
Exhibition of new architecture projects after the Japan earthquake accompanied with a series of public lectures held at the Schindler House, Oct. 23, 2014 - Jan. 4, 2015.

Nikkei Student Union at UCLA: Nikkei Student Union’s 28th Annual Culture Night; Shigehiro Naiki
Student-run production at Royce Hall that educates people on Japanese American Culture and promotes political awareness.

Tanaka Video: The Life and Times of Minoru Yasui; Ms. Tanaka and Ms. Yasui
Film about Min Yasui an Nisei attorney in Oregon during WWII who reopened a lost case 40 years later that helped all types of minorities gain rights in America.

2013-2014
Japanese American National Museum: Speaking Up! Democracy, Justice, Dignity JANM’s Fourth National Conference; G.W. Kimura
Conference to include lectures, sessions, and other activities focusing on the Japanese American story on July 4-7, 2013 in Seattle, WA.
 
Nikkei Student Union at UCLA: Nikkei Student Union’s 27th Annual Culture Night; Terumi Satake
Student-run production at Royce Hall that educates people on Japanese American Culture and promotes political awareness.
 
Japanese Institute of Sawtelle: Transformation of Sawtelle's Japan Town (1940 - 1960); Jack Fujimoto
Study of Sawtelle's Japan Town though oral histories and panel discussions.

Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival: The Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival (April 20-21, 2013); Karen Ogawa
Festival with cultural performances, demonstrations, exhibits, children’s crafts and other special programs.
 
Nikkei Women Legacy Association: The Remembrance Project; June Aochi Berk
Preserving and honoring legacies of Issei/Nissei/Kibei/Nikkei women.
