Shuhei Endo is the principal of Shuhei Endo Architect Institute in Osaka, Japan, which he established in 1988. He is the recipient of a 2006 Architectural Design Commendation from the Architectural Institute of Japan, a 2005 Architecture and Design Award for Young Children and a 2004 Special Award at the Venice Biennale 9th International Architecture Exhibition.
Endo can be defined as an architect of steel, since he distinctly favours this material in his buildings and continually experiments with its infinite possibilities. This approach is most evident in the great roofs that house Endo-designed offices, such as Rooftecture N (Nisinomiya, 1998); spaces for relaxation and meetings, such as Rooftecture T (Fukui, 1997); and private homes, such as Springtecture H (Harima, 1998) and Rooftecture M (Maruoka, 2001).

Japan and Los Angeles form the eastern and western edges of the world, and diverse cultures and technological advances have flowed to and accumulated at these edges. This series will connect those edges to create a new center for the world and a platform for projecting the future of technology, culture and design around the globe.
