Kimono: Sea of Silk

Nobuaki Tomita, born 1963 in Kyoto, Japan, is a stylist, lecturer, designer and a producer for Kimono. He established his own company called, "Kyokaori," combined the characters for "Kyoto," "fragrance," and "textiles" when he was 27 years old after learning about Kimono industry in Kyoto Muromachi. Tomita presented kimono shows outside of Japan for the first time 1994 and 1995 in Shanghai, China as a cultural exchange. He worked as a costume coordinator and a stylist with many Japanese actresses and actors such as Mitsuko Mori, Yuriko Hoshi, Yoko Yamamoto, Yukie Nakama, Kyoko Koizumi and Takako Tokiwa for their TV dramas, films, advertisements and for the magazines. Tomita was the Kimono stylist in 1991, 2000, 2002 and 2005 for NHK's popular music program, "Kohaku Uta Gassen." Tomita continues to work as kimono stylist and designer as well as giving lectures about Japanese kimono, designs, textiles and those of histories. Since 2005, he started to have more activities outside of Japan especially in San Francisco, U.S.A. for the hope of more people to know Japanese traditions and this beautiful culture to flourish generations to generations. In 2005, he produced San Francisco design Kimono and in 2006 he held his Kimono exhibition in Japantown, San Francisco. In 2007, he had an opportunity to have Kimono show and exhibition at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. He works not only in Japan but also all around the world to let the world know the beauty of Kimono.
