UCLA

The University Buddhist Association and the UCLA Center for Buddhist Studies are pleased to present a talk by the Venerable Thubten Wangchen (Director of Tibet House, Barcelona), who will give an introductory lecture on Tibetan Buddhist spirituality and practice. His talk will offer an informative overview of Tibetan Buddhism, as a prelude to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s visit to UCLA on May 2nd.

Venerable Thubten Wangchen was born in Tibet but fled his homeland at the age of five. He travelled to India where he eventually joined Namgyal monastery in Dharamsala. He has spent most of the past thirty years in Spain, where he founded the Tibet House (Casa del Tibet) in Barcelona. In December 1994, His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurated the headquarters of the Tibet House, where His Holiness serves as honorary president and Ven. Thubten Wangchen as director. In 2001, the Tibet House was converted into a foundation in order to promote the defense of Tibetan culture, human rights, and cooperation and solidarity with the Tibetan people in exile, especially through education and health programs.

This event is sponsored by the UBA, the UCLA Center for Buddhist Studies and ASUCLA, with the generous support of Griff & Sandi Williams, and Ildefonso Panero.

Cost: Free and open to the public
