한국현대건축의 표현특성에 관하여 On Expressive Characteristics of Korean Contemporary Architecture

The analytic study of architectural works in Korea was the process that approached the Western view of criteria without confirming the concrete concepts of Western culture and architecture. Therefore, for 60 years, Korean architecture can be described as the conflictive process which repeats the acceptance and break from Western architecture and as a grope of independence since decolonization from Japan.
Recently, contemporary architecture is in a chaotic condition. Therefore, in my opinion, trends of architecture have been juxtaposed with modernism, post-modernism, late-modernism, deconstructivism and even non-geometrical digital design, environment-friendly architecture.
From this point of view, this research focuses on the analytic classification of expressive characteristics in Korean Contemporary Architecture. Therefore, the contents of this research will be constituted of the following classifications:

  • Expressive Characteristics in Remains & Modification of Modernism
  • Expressive Characteristics of Techniques, Mechanical Aesthetics
  • Expressive Characteristics of Korean Tradition & Architect Personality

한국 건축에 대한 분석 연구는 서양문화와 건축에 대한 구체적인 이해 없이 서구의 기준을 따라 일제 식민지로부터 해방된 이래 지난 반 세기 이상에 걸쳐 서구의 건축을 수용하기도 하고 파기하기를 반복하면서 치열하게 진행해 왔다고 볼 수 있다. 근자에 현대건축은 모더니즘, 포스트 모더니즘, 레이트 모더니즘, 해체주의 그리고 심지어는 비기하학적인 디지털 건축과 친환경 건축 등이 현대건축에 공존하면서 혼란된 모습을 보이고 있다고 생각한다.

이러한 관점에서 모더니즘의 지속과 변형에 대한 표현특성, 기술과 기계미학에 대한 표현특성, 한국전통과 개성표출에 대한 표현특성 등 세 분야에 초점을 두고 한국 현대건축의 표현특성을 분류해 보고자 한다.

 

Yil Hyung Lee has received his doctoral degree from HongIk University and was a senior researcher at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement and at Junglim Architecture Co., Ltd. He was invited to the Korean Architecture Grand Exposition and he has been a juror and committeemember to many architectural institutions.  He is currently a professor at the Department of Architecture in Soonchunhyang University.

이일형 교수는 홍익대학교 건축과에서공학박사를 받음. 정림건축과 국토개발연구원 책임 연구원을 거쳐 현재 순천향대학교 건축학교 교수로 있다. 대한민국 건축대전 초대작가 및 각종 관련단체 심의의원으로 있다.
