As U.S. ties with Asia become increasingly important and as East and Southeast Asian immigrants, many of whom are practicing Buddhists, come to rival other minorities in size and influence, the need grows for specialists with a close understanding of all facets of Buddhism-its beliefs, its history, and its importance in the contemporary world. The Center for Buddhist Studies has been established to contribute to that understanding.
