Monday, April 07, 20144:00 PM - 5:30 PMDodd 275
The talk focuses on Arakan, a region of Burma (Myanmar) that borders on Bangladesh. The talk presents some new Sanskrit inscriptions from Arakan and discusses some of their salient features. The paper asks if the Arakan corpus of inscriptions may be regarded as integral to the epigraphical and Buddhist culture of northeastern South Asia or does it represent a specifically Arakanese cultural identity.
