The Confusion of Means and Ends in Iraq
The democratization of Iraq is an integral element of currently proposed exit strategies for the US and its coalition partners in Iraq. But democratization initiates a process which by its very nature clouds the future with an uncertainty that only the people of Iraq can dispel in their own way and in their own good time.
Professor Juan Cole (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) will examine the broad strategy and tactics of jihad, identifying the major actors and assessing their effectiveness. Specifically, he will discuss Ayman al-Zawahiri and the Radical Islamist Conflict with America.
This presentation is part of the Near East Center's ongoing series on the Road to Peace / Path to Ruin in the Middle East.
