Gender, Health and Human Rights in Latin America

This symposium will feature a panel of experts on the region to discuss women's reproductive health issues in Latin America.

The symposium begins with a discussion of a non-profit organization based in the Dominican Republic (Proyecto LIDER) that works with young women in the areas of HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy prevention and domestic violence.  This will be followed by a panel of experts (scholars, advocates and practitioners) who will discuss varying scholarly perspectives and strategies for advancing women’s health and human rights in Latin America.  Thus, the symposium will offer an ideal combination of theoretical and hands-on approaches to institutional challenges.
