Dr. John Ridland is a Research Professor in the English Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He received his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in 1964, and his central interests include poetry; verse writing; and literary translation. Edited The Little Square Review (1966-1972). Published several books and chapbooks of his poems since the 1950’s, and poems and reviews in many magazines in the US, UK, Australia, and Hungary, beginning with The New Yorker and The Atlantic. With his wife Muriel wrote And Say What He Is: The Life of a Special Child (1975). Translated a famous Hungarian “folk-epic” poem, Sándor Petofi’s John the Valiant, for which he was awarded a gold medal from the Árpád Academy in Cleveland.

Dr. Péter Czipott, physicist, is Chief Scientist at Quantum Magnetics, Inc., a subsidiary of GE Security in San Diego. His work usually shows up in technical journals such as Proceedings of the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers. With Prof. John Ridland, he has so far translated poems by Petofi, Faludy, Radnóti, Márai and Kosztolányi. Their translation of Faludy's "Ode to Hungarian" appeared in Literary Imagination (2005), and selected translations of Radnóti and Márai have been published in PN Review (2007).
