A lecture and music presentation.
Despite attempts to purge the new 'Hebrew' music from Diaspora influences in the early years of statehood, liturgical and paraliturgical Jewish music exerted a strong influence on Israeli nationalist and art music (sometimes more than the people involved were willing to admit). Analysis of this music blurs the often perceived antagonism between the 'Israeli' and the 'Jewish'. In later years, moreover, this duality was more openly reconciled in musical works, in which Israeli and Jewish soundscapes were integrated.
