This presentation investigates the role of Korea as the hub of cooperation and peace in East Asian community while examining evidences in the past. The concept of Korea as the middle bridge power will be introduced, which has the potential to become a peacemaker due to its geopolitical reality.

  Myung-Lim Park: He serves as the Graduate Program in Area Studies Chair at Yonsei University. He also served as the Coordinate Research Scholar at Harvard-Yenching Institute in Harvard University. His publications include The Origins and Coming of the Korean War (2 Vols.)(1996) and The Requiem for Peace: Korea, 1950 (2002 in Korean and in Japanese).

    Fragmented National Identities of a Divided Nation: Kungmin and Inmin

The division of the Korean Peninsula resulted in not only the political and economic divisions, but also the language and concepts divisions. This presentation examines why the same term, which indicates the origin of sovereignty and the members of a nation, came to be divided into Gukmin and Inmin after the Liberation of Korea.

   Seong Bo Kim: He is a Professor of History at Yonsei University of Korea. He is also the Chief Editor of Critical Review of History (역사비평). His publications include Nambukhan Gyongjegujo-ui Giwon-kwa Jeongae (The Origins and Developmetns of the North and South Korea's Economy).
