Luis Duno Gottberg is Associate Professor at the Dept of Spanish and Portuguese at Rice University. His books include Solventar las diferencias: La ideología del mestizaje en Cuba (Frankfurt-Madrid: Vervuert – Iberoamericana, 2003) and Albert Camus. Naturaleza: Patria y Exilio . Caracas: Imprenta Universitaria, Universidad Central de Venezuela, 1994, and his La humanidad como mercancía. La esclavitud moderna en América is forthcoming in 2010. He has also edited three volumes: Miradas al margen. Cine y Subalternidad en América Latina (Caracas: Cinemateca Nacional de Venezuela, Ministerio de Cultura 2008), Imagen y Subalternidad. El Cine de Víctor Gaviria. Revista Objeto Visual (Caracas: Cinemateca Nacional de Venezuela, Ministerio de Cultura, 2003), and Cultura e identidad racial en América Latina. Revista Estudios. Revista de Estudios Culturales e Investigaciones Literarias (Caracas: Universidad Simón Bolívar, No. 19, 2002).

Juan Pablo Lupi is an assistant professor at the Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese at UC-Santa Barbara. His research interests include José Lezama Lima, contemporary Venezuelan literature, relationship between literature and science, and literary theory. He has published articles on Lezama, “Orígenes” group, contemporary Venezuelan history, and on Eugenio Montejo. He is working on a book about the experience of language and the interpretation of culture on Lezama Lima’s works.
