A group of Indonesian religious experts discuss Indonesia's promotion of moderate Islam, tolerant interfaith coexistence and democracy.
Dr. Andang Binawan, Professor of Canon Law, Human Rights & Eco-Philosophy, Driyarkara School of Philosophy (Jakarta)
Andang Binawan has been teaching at Driyarkara School of Philosophy since 2003, and taught canon law at the Atmajaya Catholic University (Jakarta) from 2002-2007. He received his licentiate in canon law from Catholic University of America in 1996 and his doctorate from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) in 2002.
Dr. Masdar Hilmy, Lecturer on Islamic Studies, Sunan Ampel State Institute of Islamic Studies (Surabaya)
Masdar Hilmy attended high school at PGAN Lasem Rembang, during which time he served as a santri at the Al-Hidayat Lasem Rembang religious school (pesantren) under the supervision of KH Ahmad Syakir Ma'shum.
He received his undergraduate degree from Sunan Ampel State Institute of Islamic Studies and completed a master's degree at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University in 1999. His Ph.D degree is from the University of Melbourne where he worked under the supervision of Arief Budiman and Merle C. Ricklefs.
Dr. Siti Syamsiyatun, Director, Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (Yogyakarta)
Dr. Siti Syamsiyatun is the Director of Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS-Yogya), an international Ph.D. program on Religions and Cross-Culture sponsored by Gadjah Mada University, Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University and Duta Wacana Christian University. She has been a senior lecturer on dakwah at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University since 1997, and is a board member of Pusat Studi Wanita (Center for Women's Studies) at the same university. She received her master's degree from the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University in 1998 and her Ph.D. in Politics from Monash University.
