Interracial marriages are often understood as blurring racial boundaries. However, examining the lives of interracial couples can actually illuminate the ways that racial boundaries are maintained in everyday life. This presentation is based on interviews  conducted with individuals in Black-White couples in Rio de Janeiro. Ph.D Candidate Chinyere Osuji examines how they experience boundary policing and its implications for constructing racial boundaries in a society characterized by its color continuum.
