Some Favorite Writers: Maxine Hong Kingston

Maxine Hong Kingston’s first book, The Woman Warrior, was awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1976, making her a literary celebrity. Her second book, China Men, earned the National Book Award in 1981. Both books are widely taught in literature and other classes. Her most recent books include a collection of essays, Hawai‘i One Summer, and her latest novel, The Fifth Book of Peace. Kingston is currently senior lecturer emerita at the University of California, Berkeley.

Co-presented by the UCLA "Cultures in Transnational Perspective" Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in the Humanities.
