Lecture by Orestes Ortez, renowned Economist and Congressional Representative of the Department of San Salvador in El Salvador. Introduction by Leisy Abrego, Professsor of Chicana/o Studies.
A 2005 Report conducted by the United Nationsl Development Program (UNDP) concluded that El Salvador's neoliberal economic model and politics should be reevaluated to transform the reality of the country's economy, which currently depends highly on remittances from Salvadorans abroad. Orestes Ortez is one of the leading architects of a new economic model for El Salvador and will give a lecture on the current development of this model in light of the new government administration.
