An introduction to the new field of disability history in the Middle East, with a focus on the Arab East.
Sara Scalenghe, a historian of the social and cultural history of the early modern and modern Arab Middle East, is an Assistant Professor of History at Loyola University Maryland. She holds a B.A. in Arabic with Persian from the School of Oriental and African Studies, and an M.A. in Arab Studies and a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern History from Georgetown University. She recently completed her first book, entitled The Body Different: Disability in the Arab-Islamic World, 1500-1800.
