Alexei Yurchak is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of Aesthetic Politics in Saint Petersburg: Skyline at the Heart of Political Opposition (2011) and Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More (2006). His interests and areas of expertise include Soviet history and the processes of post-Soviet transformation. He has published widely in English and Russian on topics analyzing language and political discourse, state sovereignty, informal cultural milieus, visual culture, entrepreneurial culture, and gender and sexuality. He is currently completing a book-length manuscript about Lenin’s body and the peculiar biomedical science that developed around the project of preserving his corpse.
