"Queer Selfhoods in the Shadow of Neoliberal Urbanism"

This talk, which is sponsored by the UCLA Center for India and South Asia, explores the affective shift in representations of queer selfhoods within the context of neoliberal urbanism in Bangalore. Focusing on the queer subject in Mahesh Dattani's dramatic oevre, this talk considers the dramatic politics of same-sex desire in Bangalore city over the past decade, and charts the itineraries of "queer" as it travels to India. 

Jisha Menon is an assistant professor of drama at Stanford University. She is currently completing her manuscript "The Performance of Nationalism: India, Pakistan, and the Memory of Partition." She is co-editor of "Violence Performed: Local Roots and Global Routes of Conflict."
