About the Asia Art Archive: The Asia Art
Archive (AAA) is an independent non-profit
organization initiated in 2000 in response to the
urgent need to document and make accessible
the multiple recent histories of art in the region.
With one of the most valuable collections of
material on art freely available from its website
and onsite library, the AAA builds tools and
communities to collectively expand knowledge
through public, research, residency and
educational programmes.
About the Speaker: Sabih Ahmed is an art
historian and Senior Researcher at the Asia Art
Archive. With AAA, he has led various
research initiatives pertaining to modern and
contemporary art in India that include
digitisation projects of artist archives, creating
digital bibliographies of vernacular art writing,
and organising conferences and workshops.
Ahmed is also currently working as a member
of the curatorial team of the 11th Shanghai
Biennale (2016). In this talk, he will present
and discuss a range of projects that the Archive
has been undertaking in South Asia with an
emphasis on its initiatives in India
