파란나비효과 | The Blue Butterfly Effect (2017) Documentary
This feature length documentary traces the development of the anti-THAAD peace movement that erupted in the remote Seongju, South Korea, in 2016. Driven largely by local residents and networks of dedicated peace and environmental justice activists, the fierce movement to oppose the U.S. military's installation of a Terminal High Area Altitude Defense system has inspired thousands of new activists and radicalized many who had never participated in a political movement before. Directed with great nuance and sensitivity, the film features ordinary mothers and elderly farmers who transform the initial concern for regional self-interest into a broader concern for peace and democracy. The film has won the Best Documentary award at the 2017 Jeonju International Film Festival and has earned high praise throughout its theatrical release in Korea and community screening across South Korea and North America.
