[Non-CKS] Korean Literature Review and Critique Competition

Macro Educational Institute is pleased to announce a competition in celebration of 50 years of Korean immigration into Atlanta, GA! Through this competition, they hope to inform and spread the truth of the Korean experience in WWII, by reading and analyzing Korean literature.

Competition Details

1. Competition Date: Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10AM
2. Location: Emory University (Atlanta), UCLA(Los Angelas), Boston, MA, NY, Washington DC, Chicago,IL and Austin,Texas
3. Deadline for submitting applications: Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 7PM
4. Applicants should submit the attached application form.
5. Eligibility: Anyone who lives in the United States and reads and writes in English and who has never published a literature book.
6. Competition Rules: a) A maximum of 2 hours will be allowed for writing.
b) Entrants will choose a title from the following list of books and on the date of the competition will write a review/critique addressing the criteria below.
c) Entrants may use a paper dictionary, but no electronic devices will be allowed. Writing materials will be provided.
d) Entrants will be allowed to bring their chosen book as a reference and may bring a 5*7 index card with handwritten notes, no other reference
materials apart from a dictionary.

7. Judging Criteria: Entries will be in English, and will be judged on grammar, accuracy of synopsis, quality of reflection and analysis, and exploration of personal reactions to the book.
8. Announcement of winners: Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 9PM
9. Prizes: One 1st place prize : $1000 // Two 2nd place prizes : $ 500 (one for poetry and one for prose) // Three to five 3rd place prizes : $ 200
If, in the opinion of the judges, there is no work deserving of the top award, the prize will not be awarded.
10. Award Ceremony: November 24, 2018.
