Global Perspectives on Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Across the Lifecourse is a collection of articles focused on issues affecting girls’ and women’s sexual and reproductive health throughout their lives. This book was the vision of the late Shonali Choudhury, a UCLA doctoral student who tragically passed away in November of 2014 from brain cancer. 

Guest speakers: Dr. Mike Prelip, Barbara Choudhury, Dr. Jennifer Toller Erausquin (editor), Dr. Mellissa Withers (editor), and Stephanie Ly (UCLA doctoral student)

Mellissa Withers, PhD, MHS is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine in the Department of Preventive Medicine. She is based at the USC Institute for Global Health. Her chapter in the book is titled "The Role of Balinese Culture in Explaining Inconsistencies Between Fertility Intentions and Reproductive Outcomes." She also leads the Global Health Program of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, a non-profit network of 45 universities in the Pacific Rim region. She received a PhD from the Department of Community Health Sciences at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health with a minor in cultural anthropology. She also holds a Master’s in International Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BA in international development from UC Berkeley. Her primary research interests lie in community participatory research, maternal and child health, migration, gender-based violence, and global reproductive health.
