UCLA is hosting the 12th meeting of the Austronesian Formal Linguistics Association, April 30-May 2. Admission is free for UCLA students and faculty, otherwise it's $20 for students and $50 for non-students. There will be talks on the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics of various languages in the Austronesian family, which stretches from Easter Island to Madagascar, and includes most languages of Pacific Island nations, the Philippines, Indonesia, East Timor, Malaysia, Brunei, and Madagascar, as well as some languages in China, Viet Nam, Thailand, and Myanmar, and the indigenous languages of Taiwan.
