Generally the historians of Buddhism in Laos have focused on the ideologies of royal, colonial, and Marxist reformist leaders. This has been a history of administration and institutions. However, looking at the actual manuscripts studied in the monasteries past and present, a entirely different type of history emerges. This paper will focus on the curricular approach to the history of monastic education and provide a basic history of its development in Laos.
