ChristopherDoyle's love affair with the camera began in the late '70's when a friend
Taiwan gave him an 8mm
camera to shoot a documentary on the Hakka Chinese. The results were
apparently disastrous.
But over 20 features and as many years later, having directed, shot and edited
copious experimental
shorts, music videos, commercials and lately, his first feature Away with Words,
Doyle is an
internationally acclaimed cinematographer whose name is instantly recognizable to young

Christopher Doyle has worked with well known
directors such as Wong Kar-Wai, Stanley Kwan, and
Chen Kaige. The retrospective will begin on
November 14 at the James Bridges Theater, where Doyle will
be speaking and acclaimed director, Gus Van
Sant, will be moderating.
