1884 Japan created a peerage, the House of Peers was made part of the parliament in the 1889 Constitution.

1928 The Chinese Nationalist government terminated all treaties with Western nations and Japan that it considered "unequal."

1972 Liberal Democratic Party leader Kakuei TANAKA took over as prime minister. He served until December 1974. His daughter became foreign minister in 2001.
